Helium Atom Diffraction

In our group we focus on characterization of organic thin films mainly by Helium Atom Diffraction. We have built the first and only Helium Atom Diffraction setup of Turkey in 2010. This setup also had a Supersonic Molecular Beam Deposition system and Time of Flight and low temperature Quartz Crystal Microbalance measurement capabilities. You can see pictures of this setup below, as of April 2010.

In 2014 we (in collaboration with Dr. Gianangelo Bracco) started construction of a new multi-technique UHV – Helium Atom Diffraction setup. In addition to having all the capabilities of our old setup, the new diffractometer is designed to accomodate integration of Reflection Absorption IR Spectroscopy (RAIRS), X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and Low Energy Electron Diffraction (LEED) in the future. You can see a picture of the new setup below, as of March 2016.

Other Surface Characterization Techniques

In addition to Helium Diffraction we are also using more conventional techniques for film charaterization. We have access to the following systems in the Chemistry Department:

Atomic Force Microscope, Ellipsometer, Contact Angle Measurement System, Reflection-Absorption IR Spectrometer

We also use the facilities provided by METU Central Laboratory (mainly AFM and XPS) and National Nanotechnology Research Center (UNAM).

In addition, we prepare our own flame annealed and templated stripped ultra flat gold films that we use as substrates for organic film growth. If you need ultra flat gold films for your studies please feel free to contact us. We thank  Toppare Research Group of The Center for Solar Energy Research and Applications (GÜNAM) for letting/helping us use their thermal evaporator.

Laser Spectroscopy Facilities

In collaboration with Dr. Okan. Esentürk we are developing Fiber-Loop Ring-Down Spectroscopy systems. Please check Esentürk Research Group  web site for laser spectroscopy facilities.

Computational Facilities

We are (in collaboration with Dr. Ersen Mete) using the following computational facilities:

  • Local computational resources located at O-102 (Computational Chemistry Laboratory) in the Chemistry Department.
  • TUBITAK ULAKBIM High Performance and Grid Computing Center
